Dangerous Goods & Battery Safety Policy
Last Updated: 21 August 2026
At Brodbay, customer safety and regulatory compliance are important to us. Some of the products we sell contain batteries or battery-powered components. We recognise that certain batteries, including lithium-ion and lithium-metal batteries, may be subject to specific safety, packaging, labelling and transportation requirements.
This policy explains how Brodbay manages battery-containing products supplied to customers in the United Kingdom.
1. Battery Product Compliance
Where our products contain batteries or battery-powered components, Brodbay works with its manufacturers and suppliers to obtain relevant product safety and battery documentation.
Depending on the individual product, our compliance documentation may include:
-
Manufacturer Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS)
-
Battery specifications and technical information
-
Laboratory test reports
-
UN 38.3 test documentation or test summaries, where applicable
-
Product safety and conformity documentation
-
Battery chemistry, capacity, voltage and watt-hour information
-
Transportation and packaging information supplied by the manufacturer
We retain relevant documentation for applicable products and can provide appropriate compliance information where required.
2. Manufacturer Documentation
Our battery-containing products are sourced from manufacturers and suppliers who provide relevant technical and safety documentation.
Before applicable products are offered for sale, we request available documentation from the manufacturer or supplier. Documentation is reviewed against the product information supplied to us to help ensure that the battery specifications correspond with the product being sold.
Documentation may identify information including:
-
Battery type and chemistry
-
Nominal voltage
-
Battery capacity
-
Watt-hour rating
-
Manufacturer information
-
Applicable UN classification
-
Applicable transportation requirements
-
Testing and laboratory information
3. Battery Safety Testing
For applicable lithium battery products, we request evidence of the required transportation testing from the manufacturer.
Where applicable, this includes documentation or a test summary demonstrating compliance with UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, Sub-section 38.3 (UN 38.3).
The applicable requirements depend on the battery type, configuration and transportation method.
4. Safety Data Sheet / MSDS Documentation
Brodbay maintains manufacturer-provided battery safety documentation for applicable products.
A representative battery MSDS document is available here:

This documentation is provided by the relevant manufacturer/supplier and forms part of our product compliance documentation.
Additional product-specific documentation may be available where required.
5. Safe Packaging and Transportation
Battery-containing products are packaged and transported according to the requirements applicable to the specific product and selected transportation method.
Depending on the battery type, product configuration, capacity and shipping method, transportation requirements may include:
-
Appropriate packaging
-
Protection against short circuits
-
Battery and package markings
-
Dangerous-goods labels, where applicable
-
Transportation documentation
-
Carrier-specific requirements
-
Air, road or sea transportation requirements
Brodbay works with its suppliers and logistics partners to ensure that applicable transportation requirements are considered when battery-containing products are prepared for shipment.
6. Direct Shipping From China to UK Customers
Some Brodbay products may be shipped directly from manufacturing or fulfilment partners in China to customers in the United Kingdom.
For these shipments, the applicable transportation requirements are considered based on the product, battery type, packaging and transportation method.
Our suppliers and logistics partners are responsible for preparing shipments in accordance with the applicable dangerous-goods transportation requirements before the goods enter the transportation network.
We do not intentionally ship undeclared or improperly packaged dangerous goods.
7. Product Documentation
Brodbay maintains supporting documentation for applicable battery-containing products, including manufacturer documentation and laboratory test information.
Where appropriate and legally permissible, documentation may be provided to:
-
Shipping carriers
-
Logistics partners
-
Regulatory authorities
-
Marketplace platforms
-
Compliance teams
-
Other relevant parties
Documentation may include:
-
SDS/MSDS
-
UN 38.3 test summary, where applicable
-
Laboratory test reports
-
Battery specification sheets
-
Manufacturer declarations
-
Product conformity documentation
-
Transportation-related information
8. Product Safety
Customers should use battery-powered products only for their intended purpose and in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Customers should not:
-
Attempt to disassemble or modify batteries
-
Damage, puncture or crush batteries
-
Expose batteries to excessive heat or fire
-
Use visibly damaged, swollen or leaking batteries
-
Attempt to recharge batteries using incompatible equipment
-
Dispose of batteries in ordinary household waste where separate battery recycling or disposal requirements apply
If a battery appears damaged, swollen, leaking, overheated or otherwise unsafe, customers should discontinue use and contact Brodbay or follow the manufacturer's safety instructions.
9. Returns and Damaged Battery Products
Customers must inform Brodbay before returning a product if it contains a damaged, swollen, leaking or otherwise potentially hazardous battery.
This is important because special dangerous-goods transportation requirements may apply to the return shipment.
Brodbay may provide specific return instructions or arrange an appropriate return method depending on the condition and classification of the product.
Customers should not send damaged batteries through ordinary postal or courier services without first confirming that the carrier accepts the shipment.
10. Regulatory Compliance
Brodbay aims to comply with applicable UK requirements and relevant international transportation requirements for battery-containing products.
Dangerous-goods transportation requirements can vary according to battery chemistry, capacity, configuration and transportation method. Therefore, individual products may be subject to different packaging, labelling, documentation and carrier requirements.
We regularly review supplier documentation and applicable shipping requirements to help ensure that relevant requirements are followed.
11. Compliance Documentation Available for Verification
For compliance reviews, Brodbay can provide relevant supporting documentation for applicable products, subject to manufacturer confidentiality and other applicable restrictions.
Depending on the product, this may include:
Manufacturer Documentation
-
SDS/MSDS
-
Battery specification sheet
-
Manufacturer declaration

UN 38.3 test summary, where applicable
-
Laboratory test reports
-
Relevant product safety testing
Shipping Documentation
-
Applicable dangerous-goods information
